Apple has officially confirmed that its iPhone 17 launch event will take place on September 9, 2025. And as tradition goes, the company will roll out its newest operating system — iOS 26 — just a week later, likely on September 16.
While last year’s WWDC was full of ambitious AI promises, this year, Apple has shifted its focus back to practical features and design upgrades that will affect millions of iPhone users.
Why iOS 26 (and Not iOS 19)?
Apple has decided to ditch its old numbering system. Instead of moving to iOS 19, the company is adopting a year-based naming strategy. Since this version will power iPhones in 2026, it’s being called iOS 26 — just like car model years.

Liquid Glass: A Fresh Design for iPhones
The biggest visual change in years is here. Apple calls it Liquid Glass, a sleek translucent design that transforms the home and lock screens. Apps and widgets appear with a clear glass effect, dynamically adapting to light and dark modes.
This design will be consistent across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, giving the entire Apple ecosystem a more unified look.
Top New Features in iOS 26

Group chat pol – make choices in group chats quickly to decide.
Spam filtration in messages – unknown sectors and spam texts are filtered in a separate folder.
Visual intelligence – reverse image search directly from the screen. For example, screens find a pair of shoes and find them immediately online.
The tab Return library and collections are back, making it easier to browse.
If the Facetime Security Study is detected, your video will automatically freeze (Processing of Privacy Devices).
Lock screen adaptation – 3D Wallpapers, a new watch style, more widgets, and deep focus mode options.
