Google Pixel 10a Needs These Features to Win (2026): Must-Have Features, Pros & Cons
Google’s Pixel 10 series is already out, but for many budget-conscious buyers, the real excitement lies in the upcoming Pixel 10a. Expected in 2026, the Pixel 10a will carry the responsibility of being the most affordable Pixel — but also faces fierce competition from the iPhone 17e, Galaxy S26 FE, and other mid-range rivals.
Leaks suggest that the Pixel 10a may not ship with all of Google’s latest innovations, but if the company really wants this phone to succeed, here are the must-have features that could make it a winner.
1. AI Features Powered by Gemini
Google’s biggest pitch with the Pixel 10 series is AI, and the two standout tools — Magic Cue and Camera Coach — show just how far Gemini can take smartphones. Magic Cue works like a proactive assistant, anticipating your needs instead of waiting for commands, while Camera Coach helps you nail the perfect shot in any scenario.
But here’s the problem: rumors suggest the Pixel 10a may use the Tensor G4 chip, not the G5. If true, this could mean no Gemini-powered features. For a phone that’s supposed to be the “budget Pixel,” that would be a mistake. Cutting AI tools from the 10a risks making it feel outdated at launch. At the very least, some core Gemini features should be available.

2. A Modern Display
The Pixel 9a’s biggest weakness was its thick bezels. While resolution, brightness, and refresh rate were fine, the overall look felt outdated. In 2026, when bezels are disappearing even on budget phones, Google cannot afford to repeat the same mistake.
A more modern, edge-to-edge display — even if slightly thicker than flagship models — would help the Pixel 10a feel premium without losing its budget-friendly identity. After all, first impressions matter, and a sleek design is often what convinces buyers to pick a phone off the shelf.

3. Battery That Keeps Up
Battery life has become a major selling point, with phones now reaching 8,000–10,000 mAh capacities. While the Pixel 10 doesn’t match those numbers, the Pixel 9a actually had a 5,100 mAh battery, which was larger than the standard Pixel 9.
If Google slims down the 10a, it should still at least match the Pixel 9a’s battery size. A downgrade here would be unacceptable — budget phones need endurance, especially for users who don’t upgrade often.

What I’d Be Okay With
Not every feature needs to change. I’d be fine if Google kept:
The same 6.3-inch display size
The same dual speakers
Cameras similar to the Pixel 9a
Same weight and overall design
These are already decent enough for a budget phone. The real battle will be around AI, bezels, and battery.
Pros and Cons
What’s Great (if Google delivers):
✔ Affordable Pixel with AI tools
✔ Bigger battery than some flagships
✔ Cleaner design with slimmer bezels
What’s Not So Great:
✘ Rumored Tensor G4 may limit AI features
✘ Risk of outdated design if bezels stay thick
✘ Strong competition from iPhone 17e and Galaxy S26 FE
Bottom Line
The Pixel 10a could either be a smart budget buy or a missed opportunity. If Google gives it Gemini AI features, a modern display, and solid battery life, it will stand out in 2026’s crowded mid-range market. But if it cuts corners, many buyers may look elsewhere.
