Apple Watch Series 11 vs Galaxy Watch 8: Which One Deserves Your Wrist?

The Apple Watch Series 11 has finally arrived, and naturally, all eyes turn toward its biggest competitor—the Galaxy Watch 8. While Apple has opted for subtle refinements this year, Samsung’s latest wearable has gone bold with a redesigned look, fresh features, and a higher price tag.

On one side, you have the Galaxy Watch 8 bringing meaningful upgrades like a sleeker squircle design, brighter display, AI integration, and improved health tracking. On the other hand, the Apple Watch Series 11 sticks to its winning formula with only minor tweaks, such as improved battery life, a more efficient display, and a new chip.

So, how do these two flagships compare head-to-head? Let’s break it down.

Apple Watch Series 11 vs Galaxy Watch 8: Key Differences

    • Chipset & Connectivity: New S11 chip with 5G RedCap on Apple Watch 11.

    • Health Tracking: Hypertension monitoring on Apple Watch 11; Vascular Load & Antioxidant Index on Galaxy Watch 8.

    • Software: watchOS 26 (with a refreshed Liquid Glass interface) vs Wear OS 6 + One UI Watch 8.

    • AI Features: Gemini AI assistant exclusive to Galaxy Watch 8.

    • Display: Galaxy Watch 8 hits 3,000 nits brightness; Apple Watch 11 tops out at 2,000 nits but introduces LTPO3 with 1Hz refresh.

    • Design: Galaxy Watch 8 adopts a new squircle case at just 8.6mm thin, while Apple keeps its familiar rounded-edge look.

    • Band System: Samsung introduces a Dynamic Lug System; Apple sticks with its tried-and-true latch system.

    • Sizes: Apple offers 42mm/46mm, Samsung goes with 40mm/44mm.

    Design & Sizes

Apple stays safe with the Series 11, maintaining the slim, slightly curved design we know from Series 10. You still get a digital crown, side button, and options in aluminum or titanium finishes. It’s familiar, versatile, and elegant, but not exactly exciting.

Samsung, however, shakes things up. The Galaxy Watch 8 debuts a “squircle” case, slimmer than ever at 8.6mm, crafted from Armor Aluminum 2. Available in 40mm and 44mm, it also boosts peak brightness to a dazzling 3,000 nits—well above Apple’s 2,000-nit cap.

Color choices? Samsung plays it safe with Graphite and Silver, while Apple offers more flair with finishes like Rose Gold, Jet Black, and multiple titanium shades.

    Bands

Apple remains loyal to its legacy system, meaning every band you already own still works with Series 11. A decade of compatibility remains untouched.

Samsung takes the opposite approach, launching a new Dynamic Lug System. It promises a tighter fit for better heart-rate accuracy and faster swapping, but it also means older Galaxy Watch bands won’t fit. New options arrive in Athleisure, Fabric, and Sport styles.

    Software & Features

The Apple Watch Series 11 runs on watchOS 26, now aligned with Apple’s naming scheme across iOS and macOS. The UI adopts “Liquid Glass” visuals, creating a smoother, more cohesive feel across devices. Key health additions include blood pressure monitoring for hypertension and the return of blood oxygen tracking.

The Galaxy Watch 8 runs Wear OS 6 with Samsung’s One UI Watch 8. The UI borrows features like the Now Bar from Galaxy phones, making widgets like media controls and timers instantly accessible.

The standout upgrade? Google Gemini AI. It allows multistep voice commands like starting a run while queuing up a playlist. Health upgrades include Vascular Load tracking (measuring circulatory stress) and an Antioxidant Index (checking skin antioxidant levels). Sleep coaching and a Running Coach add extra depth to fitness tracking.

    Battery & Charging

Apple finally improves endurance. Thanks to the new S11 chip and LTPO3 display, the Series 11 stretches to 24 hours per charge—a solid jump from the 18-hour norm.

Samsung equips the Galaxy Watch 8 with 325mAh (40mm) and 425mAh (44mm) batteries, powered by the new Exynos W1000 chip. Expect 30 hours with an always-on display and up to 40 hours with it off. In practice, though, both watches will need daily charging.

    Models & Prices

    • Apple Watch Series 11: 42mm and 46mm, GPS or GPS + 5G. Wide material and finish options.

    • Galaxy Watch 8: 40mm and 44mm, Bluetooth or LTE. Prices start at $350 (40mm Bluetooth) and go up to $430 (44mm LTE). Samsung raised prices by $50 compared to last year.

    Voice & Haptics

Both watches support calls on cellular models (or when tethered to your phone). Haptic feedback remains excellent on both, crisp and responsive for notifications and interactions.

    Final Verdict

The Galaxy Watch 8 feels like the bigger leap this year: new design, brighter display, Gemini AI, and advanced health tracking—albeit at a higher price. If you’re an Android user, this is the clear winner.

The Apple Watch Series 11, meanwhile, is more of an incremental update. Better battery life and blood pressure tracking are great, but the design and overall experience remain mostly unchanged. It’s a worthwhile buy for users upgrading from older models (Series 5, 6, or SE), but less tempting for Series 10 owners.
