Xiaomi 17 Ultra to Launch on December 25th, Official Design Revealed
Xiaomi has confirmed that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be launched in China on December 25th. This is expected to be the most advanced camera-focused mobile phone to date. Launched in partnership with Leica, the phone features significant improvements to the camera system. It doesn’t just focus on filters and camera beauty features; it truly brings substantial changes to mobile photography.
Images have been shared by Xiaomi ahead of the launch, showcasing the phone’s design and internal changes, which are indeed impressive.
Refined Design with the Familiar Ultra Identity
At first glance, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra stays true to the Ultra-series identity while refining several details.
The phone features a circular camera module with Leica branding. The word “Ultra” is also found on the upper left of the rear panel.
One noticeable change is the button layout. Xiaomi has replaced the traditional rocker-style volume keys with separate circular buttons, which should improve tactile feedback during daily use.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra comes with a flat display, giving it a modern and clean look. Xiaomi has removed the secondary rear display seen in previous Ultra models, which was also quite impressive. This time, Xiaomi’s focus is on simplicity and usability.

The phone will be available in black and white color options at launch.
The Camera Takes Center Stage Once Again
Xiaomi is positioning the Xiaomi 17 Ultra as its “next-generation night photography champion,” and the hardware upgrades support this claim. The rear camera system includes:
- Â A 1-inch Omnivision OV50X primary sensor, which uses advanced LOFIC technology to improve dynamic range in challenging bright light conditions such as night scenes and fireworks.
- A 200MP Samsung periscope telephoto camera, certified with Leica APO optics, designed for clear long-distance shots, high-quality macro photography, and continuous optical zoom.
- A third supporting lens to complete the triple-camera setup.
According to Xiaomi, this periscope module helps maintain better color and detail, and allows for optical zoom over a long distance. This time, even better flagship performance and a bigger battery are expected.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a high-efficiency display. Full details about the display are not yet available but will be soon. However, Xiaomi is expected to focus on balancing performance and battery life.

According to initial reports, the phone may have a large 6,800mAh battery, which will come with these features:
100W wired fast charging
80W wireless charging
The higher-end variant includes satellite connectivity, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support, and water and dust resistance, further strengthening its position in the flagship performance segment.
Price and Availability
Due to rising component costs and advanced camera hardware, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to launch at a higher starting price. According to current estimates, the base price in China will be approximately 6,999 yuan (approximately $999), which is roughly 91,178.33 INR in India, though this may vary depending on tax rates.
The December 25th launch timing seems deliberate, likely intended to give photography enthusiasts a powerful new tool just before the holiday season.
What to expect next:
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is poised to become a high-end, camera-focused Android flagship in early 2026, boasting a refined design, significant camera upgrades, and a top-of-the-line performance chipset. Its official specifications, global availability, and details about its software and hardware features will be revealed at the official launch event in China.
