Nothing has officially started teasing its next big software update — Nothing OS 4.0. The new version is based on Android 16 and is said to be both “Refined” and “Redefined”. In simple words, users can expect a smoother experience, a refreshed design, and some handy new features.

The announcement came through a post on X (Twitter), though the company hasn’t revealed the exact rollout date yet. Still, with teasers picking up, the stable release looks just around the corner.

Nothing first showed off OS 4.0 during the launch of the Nothing Phone (3) back in July 2025. A closed beta was released for Phone (3) users shortly after, but other devices didn’t get beta testing — they’ll jump straight to the stable build.

The original Nothing Phone (1) won’t get the update since it has already received its promised three OS upgrades. CEO Carl Pei confirmed this on X but also hinted that a special program is in the works for Phone (1) owners. This might turn out to be an upgrade plan with discounts on newer models.

As expected, the Nothing Phone (3) — the brand’s first proper flagship — will be the first to receive the Android 16-based update. Once that rollout begins, other eligible devices should quickly follow since Nothing’s lineup isn’t too large.
