Nintendo Raises Its Switch 2 Sales Forecast — Now Aiming for 19 Million Units This Year
Nintendo is feeling confident about its latest console. The company has raised its sales forecast for the Switch 2 from 15 million to 19 million units for the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2026 — a massive 26.7% increase. This strong outlook suggests the Switch 2 might even surpass the first-year sales of the original Switch.
So far, Nintendo has sold 10.36 million Switch 2 consoles since launch, including 4.54 million units in the latest quarter ending September 30. With the holiday season approaching — typically Nintendo’s strongest sales period — the company expects those numbers to climb rapidly, possibly doubling during Q3 as seen in past years.
For comparison, the original Switch sold 17.79 million units in its first 13 months. The new model could easily top that milestone in less time, thanks to strong demand and increased production targets.

Nintendo is also seeing momentum in game sales. It now expects to sell 48 million Switch 2 game copies this fiscal year, up by 3 million from earlier forecasts. Combined with the older Switch, total software sales are expected to hit 125 million units, compared to the previous estimate of 105 million.

In the last quarter alone, 11.95 million Switch 2 games were sold, led by titles like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bonanza. The release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A in mid-October is expected to give another big boost during the holiday quarter.
Thanks to booming hardware and software sales, Nintendo’s financials also looked strong. The company reported ¥527.2 billion ($3.7 billion) in revenue and ¥102.9 billion in profit for the quarter — both well above expectations.
