BSNL is revolutionizing India’s internet scene with its Quantum 5G FWA service, a groundbreaking step into the next generation of wireless connectivity. Launched first in Hyderabad in June 2025, this service introduces India’s first home-grown, SIM-less 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), delivering speeds comparable to fiber optics without the complex wiring.
How Does BSNL Quantum 5G FWA Work?
The BSNL Quantum 5G FWA offers high-speed wireless broadband, leveraging the power of 5G networks. It eliminates traditional fiber cables and SIM cards by operating on a Direct-to-Device platform. All a customer needs to do is plug in a self-installable gateway device at their home or office, and it will instantly connect to BSNL’s 5G network, eliminating the need for any complicated verification processes. This simple setup makes it an ideal, hassle-free internet solution for businesses and enterprises that require a dependable and fast connection.
Plans and Pricing
To make this technology accessible, BSNL has launched its Quantum 5G FWA service with two introductory monthly plans:
-
A plan priced at ₹999 per month that offers impressive speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
-
A higher-tier plan at ₹1,499 per month, which provides ultra-fast speeds of up to 300 Mbps.
These plans are strategically designed to empower enterprises, MSMEs, and smart-manufacturing hubs with powerful internet connectivity at an affordable price point.
Speed and Performance
During its initial trials at the Hyderabad exchange, the Quantum 5G FWA service showcased remarkable performance metrics.
-
The service achieved download speeds peaking at 980 Mbps.
-
Upload speeds were recorded at up to 140 Mbps.
-
Network latency was exceptionally low, dropping to just 10 ms.
With this level of performance, the service is more than capable of handling demanding tasks like Ultra HD video streaming, intensive remote work, cloud-based applications, and lag-free online gaming.
Launch and Availability
Following its successful debut in Hyderabad, BSNL is set to initiate a pilot rollout of the service in September 2025. This phase will cover several major cities, including:
-
Bengaluru
-
Pune
-
Chandigarh
-
Pondicherry
-
Visakhapatnam
-
Gwalior
A nationwide rollout is planned after BSNL collects feedback from this pilot phase and further optimizes the service’s performance.
Built with Indian Technology
A significant achievement of BSNL’s 5G FWA service is its foundation on a completely indigenous 5G stack. Every component, including the core network, Radio Access Network (RAN), and the Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) device, has been developed by Indian vendors as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. This milestone establishes BSNL as the first telecom operator in India to offer a fully localized 5G FWA solution.
Why This is a Game-Changer
The BSNL Quantum 5G FWA is about more than just fast internet. Its effortless plug-and-play installation, combined with business-centric features like network slicing and Service Level Agreements (SLAs), gives it a significant advantage over conventional broadband. For businesses, small and medium enterprises, and a growing number of tech-focused industries, this service represents a pivotal moment in bridging the connectivity gap between traditional fiber and wireless broadband.
