Touchscreen MacBooks Could Arrive Sooner Than Expected — Here’s What We Know
Apple may finally be breaking one of its longest-standing traditions. According to new leaks, the company is preparing to introduce touchscreen MacBook Pros — possibly as soon as late 2026 or early 2027. This would mark a major shift in Apple’s laptop philosophy, one that Steve Jobs once firmly opposed.
Touch Comes to the MacBook Pro
Fresh reports now back up earlier rumors that Apple’s next-gen MacBook Pros will feature OLED touch displays built with advanced on-cell technology. Internally codenamed K114 and K116, these new models are said to be thinner, lighter, and powered by the next-generation M6 chips.
Apple reportedly plans to ditch the notch for a cleaner hole-punch camera design, similar to the iPhone’s Dynamic Island. To solve the common “screen wobble” issue on touch laptops, Apple has also reinforced the hinge system, ensuring the display remains stable even during finger taps.

Premium Design, Premium Pricing
The first touchscreen 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros are expected to cost a few hundred dollars more than the current versions. Still, Apple isn’t rushing to add touch across all models — instead, it’ll likely test the waters with its high-end lineup before deciding whether to expand the feature to the MacBook Air.
Apple’s Careful Shift in Strategy
For years, Apple dismissed the idea of touchscreen Macs, calling them “not ergonomic” and steering users toward iPads instead. Now, it seems Apple wants to deliver a more refined take — learning from PC rivals like Dell, Microsoft, and Lenovo, which have offered touch laptops for years.

Adding a touchscreen could also open new revenue opportunities, encouraging buyers to opt for higher-end MacBook Pros and even converting some Windows users to macOS.
If these reports hold, Apple’s next MacBook redesign could be its most significant in years — merging the best of its Mac and iPad worlds while maintaining that classic MacBook feel.
