Apple MacBook Pro M5 Launched: Faster, Smarter, Same Price
Apple has officially introduced its first laptop powered by the M5 chip — the 14-inch MacBook Pro. Priced at $1,599, it replaces the M4 version but keeps the same familiar design. This year, Apple’s chip rollout takes a different route: instead of unveiling the full Pro and Max lineup together, the company is leading with just the base M5 model, while the M5 Pro and M5 Max variants are expected to arrive in 2026.
Unlike last year’s all-at-once release strategy, Apple seems to be pacing things out. The M5 MacBook Pro launches alongside the latest iPad Pro models and the refreshed Apple Vision Pro, both using the same M5 chipset. The design and hardware remain mostly unchanged, which means all eyes are on what the new M5 chip brings to the table.
Built on the same 3-nanometer process as the M4, the M5 features 10 CPU cores, 10 GPU cores, and a 16-core Neural Engine. Apple calls it the world’s fastest CPU core, offering up to 20% better multi-core performance and 1.6x faster graphics than the M4. AI and creative workloads also get a major lift — with 3.5x faster AI processing, 1.8x quicker AI video enhancement in Topaz Video, and 1.7x faster 3D rendering in Blender. Even SSD speeds are reportedly 2x faster than before.
The display setup remains premium: a 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR panel with 3024×1964 resolution, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and up to 1,600 nits peak brightness. It continues to deliver professional-grade visuals with P3 color support and 1 billion colors.
Other familiar features include three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI output, an SDXC card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a six-speaker audio system with Dolby Atmos. Connectivity options stay modern with Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and a 12MP 1080p Center Stage webcam. The laptop ships with macOS Tahoe out of the box.
In short, the M5 MacBook Pro might look the same on the outside, but inside it’s all about raw performance and faster AI workflows. Pre-orders are open now, starting at $1,599 for the 16GB RAM and 512GB model, with shipping set to begin October 22.
