Snap’s Upcoming Snap Shopping Features AR Glasses Will Let You Shop Directly from Your Lenses

Snap is taking a big leap toward merging augmented reality and e-commerce with its next-generation AR glasses, called Specs. Set to launch next year, the new consumer-ready AR glasses will include built-in shopping features, allowing users to buy items directly through their lenses.

At Lens Fest 2025, Snap’s annual event for AR developers and creators, CTO Bobby Murphy announced Commerce Kit, a new set of software tools that enable “select developers to accept payments directly inside lenses.” These payments could cover digital goods, in-app upgrades, or even physical items — marking Snap’s first serious step into AR-based commerce.

This expansion builds on Snap’s existing Lens Creator Rewards Program, which allows AR developers to earn money for popular effects. With Commerce Kit, Snap aims to create a more sustainable ecosystem — one where creators and developers can monetize their lenses through real purchases.

“This is the start of developer monetization for lenses on Specs,” Murphy said. “We plan to keep finding ways to help creators build sustainable businesses on our platform.”

A New Era for Snap’s AR Glasses

While Snap has released earlier prototypes of Specs, those were limited to developers. The new version launching in 2026 will be the first aimed at everyday consumers. CEO Evan Spiegel has teased that the upcoming glasses will be lighter, more comfortable, and packed with smarter AR experiences.

The new Specs will feature powerful AR integrations — from real-time translation lenses to a built-in web browser and Spotlight video viewer. Snap is also collaborating with partners like Tripadvisor, which is developing a lens that overlays restaurant and shopping insights right in your field of view, and Figma, which is exploring AR design tools.

    Building the AR Future

With these updates, Snap is signaling that it’s serious about turning its AR ecosystem into a full-fledged platform for both creators and consumers. The company envisions Specs being used in classrooms, studios, and creative spaces — blending real-world interactions with digital experiences.
